The University of Ibadan's security team has released Femi Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Action Congress (AAC), along with students who were arrested during a protest against a recent tuition fee hike at the institution.

The protest, which occurred on Monday morning, was in response to the increase in school fees at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. Among the arrested students were Aduwo Ayodele and Nice Linus.

Adeyeye, recounting the events, stated that he and the protesting students were assaulted by security personnel at the university. They were initially detained at the school's security post.

According to Adeyeye, the university management, feeling threatened by the protest, mobilized security officers and individuals who appeared to be thugs to disrupt the demonstration. Despite facing physical violence, the activists remained resolute in challenging the undemocratic fee hike.

The Chief Security Officer, Mr. Victor Fadebiyi, allegedly threatened to criminalize their agitation, leading to further intimidation tactics. Eventually, armed soldiers and officers from Operation Burst were called in to apprehend the protesters.

After hours of questioning and agitation for their release, Adeyeye and the other detained individuals were freed. However, they remain steadfast in their pursuit of economic prosperity, social justice, and the reduction of tuition fees.

This incident highlights the ongoing struggle against unjust fee hikes in Nigerian universities and calls for solidarity among students to demand fair and accessible education.
