UI VC Tasks School of Business Students on Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Critical Thinking

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has urged students of the UI School of Business to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation, and critical thinking as key drivers of Nigeria’s future development.

Prof. Adebowale gave the charge during a visit to the School, where he facilitated a discourse titled: “The Entrepreneurial Imperative: Forging Nigeria’s Future Through Entrepreneurship and Innovation.”

He encouraged the students to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, innovators, and entrepreneurs who can contribute meaningfully to national development. He also advised them to collaborate effectively as postgraduate students and build entrepreneurial skills to thrive in an increasingly competitive world.

Describing the visit as a sense of duty, the Vice-Chancellor said it provided an opportunity to engage directly with staff and students. He noted that the vision and mission of the UI School of Business are fully aligned with the broader vision of the University, which he said remains great because of its enduring values of excellence, integrity, and service.

Acknowledging the challenges facing the School, Prof. Adebowale stressed that they are not peculiar to it. He urged staff and students not to relent in the pursuit of excellence and assured them of management’s commitment to revamp the School’s structures and provide needed amenities to support growth and expansion.

The Coordinator of the School of Business, Dr. Siyanbola Omitoyin, expressed appreciation for the deployment of four new academic staff, describing it as a significant boost to teaching and learning. She said the School has recorded great achievements despite challenges and remains committed to excellence.

Dr. Omitoyin added that the Vice-Chancellor’s interaction gave students direct access to his experience and historical knowledge, which she said will inspire them, create a sense of identity, and strengthen their connection to the University.
