UNIDEL Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stella Chiemeke Pledges Completion of Ika Language and Cultural Centre

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke has reiterated the commitment of the University to the completion of the Ika Language and Cultural Centre, located in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this during the Awards and Gala Night organized by the Ika Peoples Congress at the Palm Event Centre, Boji Boji, Owa, on Friday, December 26. 

Prof. Chiemeke, while appreciating the contributions of donors, appealed to those yet to redeem their pledges towards the completion of the project to do so. She gave an assurance that the project would not be abandoned, as the committee on the project was still in force, and called on those who had yet to contribute to the project to respond accordingly to ensure the Centre became a reality.

She used the opportunity to thank the former Governor of state, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his foresight in establishing the University, which had brought immeasurable economic, social and physical development to the entire Ika land. She was also full of praise for the entire University community and the Ika nation for the successes recorded by the Institution.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Ika Peoples Congress (IPC), Mr Williams Eghebi extolled many sons and daughters of Ika land for their invaluable contributions to the progress of the Ika nation. He particularly recognized the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof Stella Chiemeke for her efforts in making the University the fastest growing in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Highlighting some of the challenges facing Ika land, Mr Eghebi called for the immediate rehabilitation of the Agbor-Abraka express way. This, according to him was not just a step at improving infrastructure, but also combating insecurity, especially, kidnapping, pointing out that criminals operated better when the road was bad.

Addressing the august gathering, the Chairman of the occasion and a former Provost of the defunct College of Education, Agbor, Prof. Emmanuel Tibi commended the Ika Peoples Congress for the awards and recognition to worthy sons and daughters of Ika land, most especially Mrs. Roseline Nwaham, a private primary school teacher for their efforts at promoting economic, social, political, and educational growth of Ika land.

Award recipients at the occasion included HRM, Dr. Agadagidi Ezeagwu Ezenwali, the Obi of Umunede, Chief John Ehikwe, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Gen. Leo Irabor (rtd), Prof. Stella Chiemeke, Dr Emmanuel Emefienim, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, Barr Eugene Uzum, Dr. Hillary Ibegbulem, Mrs Roseline Nwaham, and the late Tony Onyeagwu.

Some of the dignitaries at the occasion included Engr Jerry Ehiwarior, Chairman Ika South Local Government Hon. Monday Odigwe Chairman Northeast Local Government, Dr. Sunny Ikeogwu, Bursar, UNIDEL, Prof. Alexander Naiho, Dean, Faculty of Clinical Science UNIDEL, Prof. Ikpeseni, Dean Faculty of Engineering UNIDEL, Chief John Ehikwe former IPC Board of Trustee member, Mr Alex Onyeagwu, Mr Joe Morgan and other notable personalities.
