UNILAG Alumni Excel Nationally with Awards in Education and Youth Development
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is celebrating the achievements of two distinguished alumni recognized nationally for their contributions in education and youth development. Dr. (Mrs.) Peace Salamatu Sule, a teacher at Akoka Junior High School, Lagos, was awarded the 2nd Best Teacher in Nigeria at the 2024 Presidential Best Teacher Award, receiving a Hyundai car for her outstanding contributions to education.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is celebrating the remarkable achievements of two alumni who have recently made significant strides on the national stage in the fields of education and youth development, bringing pride to the institution and showcasing the impact of UNILAG graduates in driving national progress.
UNILAG alumna Dr. (Mrs.) Peace Salamatu Sule has been recognized as the 2nd Best Teacher in Nigeria at the prestigious 2024 Presidential Best Teacher Award. Dr. Sule, a dedicated educator at Akoka Junior High School in Lagos, received the award for her exceptional contributions to the education sector. The award presentation took place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the iconic Eagles Square in Abuja.
In recognition of her outstanding achievements, Dr. Sule was presented with a brand new Hyundai saloon car, symbolizing the nation's appreciation for her dedication to fostering academic excellence and shaping young minds. The award was presented by the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Yusuf T. Sununu, who represented President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
In another notable development, UNILAG alumnus Agomeze Saint Chukwuemeka has secured a prominent role on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Reform Committee. Chukwuemeka, currently serving as a corps member in Lagos, was appointed as the sole representative for all NYSC members nationwide. The committee, which was inaugurated on July 26, 2024, by the Honorable Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, is charged with the mission of reviewing and restructuring the NYSC program to address modern challenges and better serve Nigerian youths.
Chukwuemeka’s appointment to the reform committee underscores his leadership and commitment to youth development. On October 8, 2024, the committee submitted its report to the Federal Government in Abuja, providing recommendations aimed at enhancing the relevance and impact of the NYSC scheme for future generations. His involvement ensures that the perspectives of current corps members are included in shaping the future of the program.
Beyond his role in the NYSC, Chukwuemeka leads initiatives aimed at youth empowerment and community service. He serves as the Project Coordinator for Gen Z Involvement in a New Nigeria (GiNN) and heads the Saint Agomeze Empowerment Foundation, both of which focus on community outreach and supporting marginalized groups.
