UNILAG DVC tasked academic researchers to make research recommendations actionable and realistic.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa has tasked academic researchers to make research recommendations actionable and realistic.

The task formed the core of her remarks at the opening session of an Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) Workshop held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) IT Hub: NITHUB, UNILAG

Organized by the Hub for Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Education Innovation Research Network in Africa (EduAI Hub), the workshop which had the theme: Inclusive Education through Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI), was a convergence of Education stakeholders across different levels.

While commending the EduAI Hub, Prof. Atsenuwa described the workshop as one which aligns with the mandate of the university to create knowledge, build human capacity and enhance professional competencies.

She also gave thumbs up to the research team members for their keen interest in the deployment of technology into education in Nigeria and across the African continent.

Prof. Atsenuwa implored all participants to be more operational in their deliberations, and make their outcomes and recommendations actionable. This, according to her, will also see them as foot soldiers and forerunners of their research recommendations.

The A.I. in Education Workshop, according to the Director of NITHUB, UNILAG, Dr Victor Odumuyiwa, is aimed at popularising the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its deployment in the education sector to solve problems and drive development.

Dr. Odumuyiwa said the workshop is premised on addressing Inclusion, Language barriers and Education Administration.

Resource persons at the workshop included Dr. Oluwakemi Olurinola (an Education Technology Researcher and Consultant), Dr. Oladipupo Sennaike (Department of Computer Sciences, UNILAG), Mrs Ruth Yakubu (Principal Cloud Advocate at Microsoft Incorporated) and Professor Iyabode Ogunniran (Faculty of Law, UNILAG).

The resource persons made presentations on status and challenges of Education in Sub-Saharan Africa, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, A.I. and Children’s protection as well as the risks of A.I.
