UNILAG Hosts Orientation Programme for Visually Impaired Freshers Organized by NANVIS
The National Association of Nigerian Visually Impaired Students (NANVIS), University of Lagos Chapter, recently organized an Orientation Programme for newly admitted visually impaired students at the university.
Approximately 30 visually impaired freshmen were welcomed to the University of Lagos during the event, where they were introduced to various programs and support systems tailored to their specific needs.
The primary objective of the orientation was to familiarize the newly admitted students with the operational framework and activities of the association, while also emphasizing inclusivity and dispelling misconceptions about the capabilities of visually impaired individuals. The programme aimed to create a conducive academic and social environment for all students.
Distinguished speakers, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Folasade Oguntola, OON, FAS, a staunch supporter of the association, were integral to the success of the event. Prof Yetunde Zaid, representing the Vice-Chancellor, shared valuable insights on achieving academic excellence through effective use of library resources.

Ejike Simon Obodoma, the Library Staff Technician overseeing the Visually Impaired Resource Center (VIRC), offered practical advice on utilizing association-sponsored capacity-building initiatives for academic and social success.
The presence of accomplished individuals like Olalekan Ibrahim, a visually impaired alumnus who was one of the best graduating students of his Department for the 2021/2022 academic session, further inspired the freshers.
Felix Ayantope Areo, President of NANVIS, expressed gratitude to all attendees for their support. Special acknowledgment was extended to Professor [Name], Director of the University of Lagos Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Centre of Excellence (UNILAG-SPESSCE), for hosting the event.
