UNILAG Inducts 699 Graduates as Certified Teachers by TRCN
A total of six hundred and ninety-nine (699) final-year students of the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, have officially been inducted as professional teachers by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

The induction followed the students’ successful completion of the 2025 Professional Qualification Examination Integrated (PQEI), upgrading them to the rank of certified professionals committed to excellence, integrity, and lifelong learning.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Simeon Adebayo Oladipo, congratulated the inductees, highlighting the importance of continuous professional development through workshops, advanced studies, and membership in professional bodies such as the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT). He urged the new teachers to bridge educational gaps, employ differentiated instruction, contextualize their teaching, and advocate for resources to ensure inclusive education.
Upholding Professional Integrity
The induction featured a keynote address on Upholding Professional Integrity as Teachers by Dr. Akeem Adekunle, Sandwich Coordinator. He emphasized that professional integrity rests on four pillars: competence, ethical conduct, commitment to service, and collaborative leadership.

Dr. Adekunle highlighted honesty, fairness, and dedication as essential ethical principles and stressed that modern teachers must be tech-savvy, creative, and adaptable. He encouraged inductees to use technology as a tool to enhance learning while maintaining human connection and to teach with passion, purpose, and love.
The Four C’s in Teaching
In her address, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, Registrar and CEO of TRCN and UNILAG alumna, congratulated the inductees, urging them to uphold student dignity, embrace modern tools including AI, and foster a culture of care, trust, and accountability. She emphasized integrating the Four Cs – Critical thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication – into teaching to enhance problem-solving and teamwork. She described TRCN registration as a badge of honour symbolizing continuous learning, compassion, and resilience.
Certificates and Oath of Allegiance
The ceremony’s high point was the issuance of Certificates of Registration and the recitation of the Teachers’ Oath of Allegiance, pledging to uphold the dignity of the teaching profession and avoid personal interests that could compromise official conduct or decisions.

The event was witnessed by notable dignitaries including Dr. Adetoun Emiola, Dr. Sola Lawrence Ige, Dr. Akeem Otun, Mr. Muyiwa Ojeniyi, and Prince Ade Ekuna, among others.
This induction underscores UNILAG’s commitment to producing highly qualified, ethical, and professional educators ready to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s education sector.
