Stakeholders from across Nigeria converged at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos State on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, for a National Workshop on Land Use Classification for Planning Practice.

The one-day event, themed “Developing a Harmonized National Land Use Classification Framework for Nigeria,” brought together experts in physical planning, urban and regional development, land administration, GIS, and spatial data management from both public and private sectors.

The workshop also drew delegates from academia, including Professor Muyiwa Agunbiade of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Lagos (UNILAG), who led the Local Organizing Committee.

Participants used the platform to deliberate on challenges posed by the absence of a standardized land use classification system and emphasized the need for a harmonized national framework. Such a framework, they argued, would enhance planning efficiency, regulatory compliance, and digital governance across the country.
