UNILORIN Alumna Asmau Yusuf Sworn in as Appeal Court Justice
Asmau Ojuolape Tanwa Yusuf, a UNILORIN alumna, becomes a Court of Appeal Justice after distinguished legal career.
Justice Asmau Ojuolape Tanwa Yusuf, an alumna of the Faculty of Law, at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), was sworn in as one of the new Justices of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The ceremony took place at the Supreme Court of Nigeria Complex in Abuja, presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Justice Yusuf, born on May 20, 1979, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2004. Prior to her elevation, she served as a Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. Her career also includes a tenure as a staff member of the Directorate of Legal Affairs at UNILORIN and as a Magistrate in the Kwara State judiciary.

The Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed the University's pride in Justice Yusuf's achievement. In a statement released by Mr. Kunle Akogun, Director of Corporate Affairs, Prof. Egbewole highlighted the joy and pride felt by the university's management, staff, and students upon hearing of her elevation.
Prof. Egbewole, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), described Justice Yusuf as an outstanding product of UNILORIN and a remarkable judicial officer. He praised her for her impartiality and urged her to continue serving as a role model to students and young people across the nation.
