UNILORIN Community Praises VC Egbewole for Green and Clean Campus Initiative
Members of the University of Ilorin community commend Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole for maintaining a consistently clean and green campus.
Members of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) community have expressed their appreciation for the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, in recognition of the institution’s consistently clean and green environment.
Several individuals from the University shared their views with UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday, praising the ongoing efforts to maintain the campus’s aesthetics through effective vegetation control.
Prof. Saudat Abdulbaqi, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, lauded the University’s efforts, stating, “The beauty of our University has been so pleasing and appealing to physical and mental health.” She highlighted that the lush greenery throughout the campus enhances both its visual appeal and overall atmosphere. Prof. Abdulbaqi suggested that the management consider installing sprinklers, especially during the harmattan season, to sustain the campus's beauty.
Dr. Hambali Umar of the Department of Chemical Engineering also commended the vegetation control measures, emphasizing that a well-maintained environment benefits staff, students, and visitors alike. He praised the University’s initiative to innovate waste management practices, noting the potential for utilizing waste materials for energy production.
Students and staff members echoed similar sentiments. Miss Lukman Balqees, a student of Mass Communication, appreciated the improved visibility on campus, which enhances safety and security. Miss Tolulope Oladele, a Marketing student, explained that regular grass cutting promotes healthier, more resilient lawns.
Vendor Mr. Lawrence Emmanuel noted that effective vegetation management contributes to environmental sustainability by improving soil health and reducing erosion. Meanwhile, Prof. Tajudeen Amusa of the Department of Forest Resources Management acknowledged the benefits of tree maintenance, including accident prevention and safety.
Dr. Adebisi Jeleel Adekunle from the Department of Material and Metallurgical Engineering praised the serene environment resulting from the vegetation control and suggested planting economic trees for further benefit. Mr. Lukman Onaeiza from the Faculty of Education highlighted that a well-kept lawn encourages outdoor activities, fostering physical fitness and social interaction.
Dr. Yusuph Gambari of the Department of Religions emphasized that the University’s commitment to maintaining a serene environment supports its core mission of teaching and research, enhancing both security and academic excellence.
Overall, the positive feedback underscores the University community's support for the ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and green campus under Prof. Egbewole’s leadership.
