The University of Ibadan (UI) recently hosted a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) sensitization programme for its final-year students. The event was aimed at familiarizing students with the objectives of the NYSC and equipping them with essential information for seamless registration, deployment, and a successful service year.

Dr. Abraham Oludolapo Ayodeji, Deputy Director of Mobilization, NYSC Headquarters, Abuja, provided an overview of the scheme, its historical background, objectives, and notable achievements. Dr. Ayodeji also detailed the bases for exemption and exclusion, assuring that certificates issued to exempted or excluded participants are equally valid. He outlined the four cardinal programmes of NYSC—Orientation, Primary Assignment, Secondary Assignment/Community Development Service, and Winding-Up/Passing Out.

The Deputy Director addressed security concerns, noting that corps members deployed to states with security challenges could apply for relocation during orientation. He cautioned that relocation is not automatic and may result in reassignment to other safe states. Students were advised to avoid night journeys during the mobilization and orientation periods, as the national security architecture is fully activated.
