University of Ibadan Orders Three-Week Break Amidst Tuition Fee Protests

The University of Ibadan has announced a three-week break for all students in response to protests over a recent tuition fee hike. The break, effective from August 31 to September 20, 2024, will allow students to complete their online registration and prepare for upcoming exams.

Students are required to vacate the campus by 2 p.m. on August 31, with classes resuming on September 23. The decision follows a series of protests that began on August 30, 2024, and resulted in an emergency meeting between university management and student leaders.

The Vice-Chancellor's directive emphasized that the registration portal would close after September 20, and students failing to register by this date will be barred from exams.
