University of Ibadan Prioritizes Health and Wellbeing, Says UHS Director

Dr. Aderonke B. Ajav, Director of the University of Ibadan Health Service (UHS), highlighted the institution's commitment to promoting good health and community wellbeing. Speaking at a one-day Health Awareness program organized by the UHS Public Health Unit, Dr. Ajav emphasized the importance of raising awareness and providing accessible healthcare services to the university community and its environs.

The awareness program aimed to inform members of the university community about the various healthcare services offered at the Jaja Clinic, including free vaccinations for children (MMR), vaccinations for adults (HPV, Hepatitis), regular health check-ups, tuberculosis screening and treatment, family planning services, health insurance schemes, counseling, and other healthcare services.

Dr. Ajav also announced the commencement of Phase 2 of the HPV vaccination campaign by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) at the Jaja Clinic from May 27 to May 31, 2024. She urged parents and guardians to ensure their children between the ages of 9 and 14 receive the vaccine.

Additionally, Dr. Ajav provided valuable health tips to promote a healthy lifestyle and boost immunity, including regular handwashing, good personal hygiene, balanced diets, adequate ventilation, consumption of organic foods, use of nose masks, and avoidance of fried foods and harmful practices such as drawing fuel from vehicle tanks with the mouth.

The Chief Nursing Officer, Mrs. Titilola A. Oni, emphasized the importance of disease prevention through immunization, particularly against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), in both adults and children.

As part of the awareness campaign, the UHS Public Health Unit organized a short drama at various locations, including the University cab station, Abadina Community, Students Union Building, and several faculties, to educate individuals on vaccination, health check-ups, and family planning.
