Two male vigilantes of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo have been accused of raping a 300level female student.

The vigilantes, whose duty is to prevent criminal activities, have been accused of sexually assaulting a female student. Students of the institution took to social media to disclose this information, explaining that the victim had been caught with her boyfriend by the vigilante men and asked to pay a fine of 500NGN. They negotiated the fine down to 1500NGN, yet the lady was still allegedly raped.

A friend of the victim, @zia_tiffah, disclosed that the rape victim had been sexually assaulted during the night on May 9th, she explained that the victim wants awareness brought to the story, citing that this case is a recurrent one that is often swept under the rug. She wants to know if she can prosecute the school or force them into action. She also asked, “Are there any organizations she can reach out to?”

It was added that the victim is currently in the hospital, accompanied by a police officer and a lecturer, receiving treatment..The university, named after Samuel Ajayi Crowther, an African bishop and Bible translator, is known for its strict discipline and high academic standards, however,Tthis incident has cast a shadow over the institution’s reputation.
