We're running 17 programmes in 19 Departments - VC David Umahi University of Medical Sciences  Prof. Jesse Uneke

Vice-Chancellor, David Nweze Umahi University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, Prof. Jesse Uneke, Wednesday expressed optimism that Students of Higher Institutions across the country would soon go back to school to continue their studies.

Uneke who stated this during a media chat with Journalists at the University complex in Uburu, emphasized that the University was not on strike as it has commenced the 2022/2023 admission exercise for all prospective students.

“We are hopeful that the ASUU/FG saga will be resolved so that our children will go back to school. Our University has been running and we are not on strike.”

According to the VC, the University is offering “17 programmes in 19 Departments are running in the University. The tuition fees which have been reduced, cover accommodations, utilities, development fees, medical, Departmental fees, among others apart from the feeding of students.”

He said: On 5th May 2022, during the visit of Buhari to the State, the University was Commissioned. An official take-over ceremony was done. We are fortunate to have a Federal University that will serve the South East zone.

“We are rounding off the first session. The University is well established and it is good for Ebonyi and South East of Nigeria. It has translated to some forms of benefit. The school fees have been reduced drastically. The 2022/2023 admission exercise has started. Those who scored 140 in JAMB should apply with the requisite WAEC and NECO results. We are also admitting students who are on transfer to the University.

“We are trying to give children the opportunity to be admitted into the University. This is a modern university and we are ready to give the students the best. We have some of the lecturers you can boast of in the country. We are mindful of the quality of the training coming out from the University. We have a blueprint that will make this University rank one of the best in the country.

“About N2 billion is being expended every year on medical tourism and we want to reverse that trend. We have a State of the Art medical equipment in our Teaching hospital at the University.

“The tuition fees are affordable within the reach of the average Nigerian. The University has taken off fully. When our students graduate they can practice outside the country. We have a template for the exchange of students under bilateral agreement.”
