The University of Ilorin inducted 124 new medical doctors into the medical profession during its 39th Professional Initiation and Oath Taking Ceremony. The graduands, from the Batch A class of 2022, took the Hippocratic Oath at a ceremony held at the University Auditorium.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, highlighted the importance of self-care for the new doctors, stressing that personal well-being is essential for them to serve others effectively. He urged the inductees to adhere strictly to medical ethics and contribute meaningfully to society. Prof. Egbewole also emphasized the need for effective communication and empathy in medical practice.

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Sulyman Alabi, reminded the new doctors of the high standards expected of them, advising them to practice with compassion, humility, and integrity. He warned against overconfidence, encouraging them to know their limitations and seek guidance when necessary.

Renowned neurosurgeon Prof. Wale Sulaiman, CON, delivered the keynote lecture titled *“Current Trends in Health Innovations and their Impact on the Future of Medical Practice.”* He discussed the transformative potential of health technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and telemedicine, urging the new doctors to embrace innovation while maintaining empathy in patient care. He also emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in the evolving healthcare landscape.

The event was attended by university dignitaries, including Deputy Vice Chancellors and the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari, represented by Dr. Suleiman Enojo, who encouraged the inductees to view technological advancements as opportunities for improving healthcare delivery.

This ceremony marks the beginning of the professional journey for the 124 new medical doctors as they join Nigeria’s healthcare system.
