The Lagos Chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has extended a generous gesture to the female Engineering student's hostel at the Lagos State University (LASU), Epe campus. On Friday, the organization donated and installed a 1.5KVA solar system, a 1.5hp solar pump, and five solar street lights, aiming to address the persistent challenge of erratic electricity supply in the campus.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), APWEN allocated approximately N5 million towards the procurement and installation of these essential equipment, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for the students round the clock.

The Chairman of APWEN Lagos Chapter, Atinuke Owolabi, expressed deep concern over the dire situation faced by the students due to prolonged power outages, emphasizing the adverse effects on academic pursuits and the general well-being of the students. She underscored the association's commitment to enhancing the learning environment and fostering academic excellence among female engineering students.

Owolabi highlighted the significance of the donated equipment in facilitating conducive study conditions, especially for research-intensive tasks undertaken by senior students. Additionally, she emphasized the broader impact on student welfare, including access to clean water facilitated by the solar pump.

In response, LASU Epe's Head of Campus, Prof. Elkanah Oyetunji, conveyed gratitude on behalf of the university's administration, acknowledging the invaluable contribution of APWEN towards improving student life. He emphasized the university's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and amenities, including plans for a solar-powered resource center to further support student activities.
