Chaos at MAPOLY: Students Disruptes Exams, Slam Management's Failures

The Student Union Government (SUG) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, disrupted the first semester exams for the 2023/2024 academic year on Wednesday. The SUG leaders blocked the entrance of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) center, preventing students from taking their exams.

An ND 2 Mass Communication student reported that the student union blocked the entrance and detained departmental heads, preventing the exams from proceeding. "We were supposed to start our exams today, but the student union did not allow us to enter. They blocked the door and held the shirts of departmental heads, saying we cannot write our exams today," the student said.

SUG President Hezekiah Adelola explained that the demonstration was a response to the school management's incompetence. He cited issues such as the non-issuance of matriculation numbers to returning HND students and the non-release of previous exam results.

"Many of our students have unresolved issues due to the management's incompetence. Returning HND students need their old matriculation numbers to write exams, but the school assigned new ones that need to be changed. Additionally, some departments haven't released their results, so students don't know if they have carryovers," Adelola said.

He also noted that students who paid their tuition fees have been unable to print their receipts due to a transition to a new portal. "MAPOLY migrated to a new portal, and for many students who paid their fees earlier, it isn’t reflecting in the new system, so they can't print their receipts," he added.Adelola stated that students have given the management the rest of the week to resolve these issues, and exams are expected to resume next week.

The school's public relations officer, Yemi Ajibola, denied that students disrupted the exams, stating that the exams were postponed because many students had not completed their registration. "It's a lie that students disrupted the exams. We discovered many students hadn't completed their registration, so the exams couldn't hold," Ajibola said.
