The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has proposed a one-year post-graduation training program, the Engineering Residency Programme (EREP), for engineering graduates.

This initiative aims to equip graduates with practical experience necessary for professional registration. COREN's President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Abubakar, made this call at the 32nd Engineering Assembly in Abuja, also urging the federal government to reinstate funding for COREN. Additionally, COREN plans to collaborate with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to accredit technical colleges and address engineering infrastructure failures.

The Council also introduced a new register for Engineering Artisans and is working on initiatives to improve regulation in the sector. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, praised COREN's efforts, emphasizing the importance of proper regulation to prevent building collapses and ensure infrastructure quality.
