Covenant University recently held its 3rd International Conference on Innovation and Sustainable Development, uniting scholars, industry experts, and policymakers to explore the future of work, resilience, and sustainability. The conference, themed “The Future of Work, Resilience, and Sustainability,” took place at the Covenant University Center for Research, Innovation, and Discovery (CUCRID) and focused on transformative shifts shaping the global workplace.
Opening the event, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo emphasized the critical need for adaptability in a 21st-century workplace influenced by rapid technological advancements and global disruptions. While acknowledging concerns around automation and job displacement, he highlighted emerging opportunities within sustainable sectors.
Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, Professor Kehinde A. Adetiloye, addressed the economic challenges amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, urging a transition to flexible, productivity-driven work models. He also underscored the importance of mental health and resilience, advocating for innovative leadership from government and businesses alike.
The Dean of the College of Management and Social Sciences, Professor Rowland Worlu, commended the gathering for facilitating crucial discussions on artificial intelligence and sustainable business practices, emphasizing the conference's role in fostering collaborative solutions for the future.
Keynote speaker Mr. Olumide Ajomale, CEO of Facilitation and Training Services Limited, delivered insights on “Evolving Horizons & Changing Paradigms: Shaping The Future Of Work For Economic Resilience.” He discussed megatrends impacting the workforce and stressed the necessity for adaptability, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence in a rapidly changing landscape.
Dr. Akin Akinpelu, CEO of Erudio Hub, also presented a keynote titled “Work 2030: Navigating the Future Toward Economic Sustainability and Inclusive Prosperity.” He focused on the importance of lifelong learning, sustainable practices, and fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems to ensure economic resilience.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Olujide Adekeye praised the conference’s success and encouraged participants to apply their insights to real-world challenges. Registrar Mrs. Regina Tobi-David also urged attendees to pursue post-conference initiatives to implement the knowledge gained.
The conference concluded with a strong call for continued collaboration between academia, industry, and society to navigate the evolving work environment and promote sustainable development, reaffirming Covenant University’s commitment to fostering positive change for future generations.
