Lagos State University (LASU) is proud to announce the recent appointment of Dr. Ahmed Odunrinde Adesanya as a professor within the Department of Linguistics, African Languages, and Communication Arts. Dr. Adesanya's new role is a testament to his extensive expertise and experience in the field of Yoruba Studies and Communication Arts.

Before assuming this distinguished position at LASU, Dr. Adesanya served as an Associate Professor within the same institution, where he garnered numerous accolades for his significant research contributions. Additionally, he has made substantial contributions to academia by publishing a series of research articles in renowned linguistics journals. It's worth noting that he initiated the Linguistics program while serving as the Head of Department (HoD).

In his capacity as a professor at LASU, Prof. A. O. Adesanya will be responsible for teaching courses that pertain to Linguistics and Communications. Moreover, he will continue his research endeavors in the field, fostering collaborations with fellow colleagues to further advance the discipline.

Prof. Taiwo Moshood Salisu, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, expressed enthusiasm about Dr. Adesanya's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to have Dr. Adesanya join us as a professor. His expertise and knowledge will be a valuable asset to our students and faculty, and we eagerly anticipate the contributions he will make to our university."

Prof. Ahmed Odunrinde Adesanya, an alumnus of the institution, commenced his journey with Lagos State University as a Graduate Assistant in 1998. Subsequently, he pursued an M.A. in Yorùbá Stylistics at the University of Ibadan in 2000, returning in 2003 to acquire another M.A. in Communication and Language Arts. In 2005, he embarked on his doctoral journey at the same university, focusing on Indigenous Nonverbal Communication. Over the years, his academic progression led him to positions as an Assistant Lecturer in 2003, Lecturer II in 2006, Lecturer I in 2009, Senior Lecturer in 2015, Associate Professor in 2018, and Full Professor in 2022, with the official announcement made in September 2023.

Prof. Ahmed O. Adesanya, originally from Ado-Ikosi in the Ikosi Ejinrin Local Council Development Area of Epe Division, Lagos State, is an alumnus of Ikosi Methodist High School, Agbowa (now Lagos State Model College, Agbowa-Ikosi). He is also an active member of the Ikosi Ejinrin Development Forum, a group of intellectuals dedicated to advancing the interests of their hometown.
