The Acting Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ilorin, Dr. Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, has encouraged students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), emphasizing its potential to provide significant relief to both students and their families. 

During an appearance on the Yoruba radio program *Oro to n lo*, hosted by UNILORIN FM Station Manager, Mr. Idris Akintola Ibrahim, Dr. Akanmu highlighted the importance of responsibly utilizing the loan while maintaining a focus on academic excellence. "This scheme is designed to help alleviate the financial burden that students face," he stated, urging them to use the funds judiciously to achieve their educational goals.

Dr. Akanmu, who is also the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), attributed the absence of cultism and other anti-social behaviors on campus to a combination of “divine guidance, effective student orientation, and the dedication of staff members.” He noted that these factors contribute to the university's positive reputation.

In his remarks, Dr. Akanmu reiterated the need for all students and staff to adhere to university regulations to maintain a peaceful and conducive learning environment. He also informed students that the balloting for hostel accommodation would begin following the Senate’s approval of returning students' good standing results.

Reflecting on recent events, he praised the orderly conduct of the Student Union elections, which he credited to transparent procedures, online voting, and divine support. As ASUU Chairman, he showcased his administration's achievements, including the resolution of outstanding financial requests, the implementation of leave for members, and a 25% reduction in school fees for staff children.

Additionally, he mentioned welfare initiatives during Christian and Muslim fasting periods, medical outreach programs, and the acquisition of a new ASUU bus. Dr. Akanmu commended ASUU's role in establishing the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), which has been beneficial for the university.

In closing, he urged all stakeholders to collaborate for the betterment of the university, emphasizing unity and cooperation among staff and students. He expressed gratitude for the commitment of ASUU members and prayed for continued divine assistance in their endeavors.
