The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the UK FCDO-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), has unveiled a groundbreaking centralized e-learning platform named eLearn, aimed at transforming the educational landscape in Nigeria. The initiative, announced on 13th September 2024, is designed to enhance teaching and learning across the country by providing comprehensive access to high-quality educational resources.

eLearn offers a diverse range of materials, including interactive exercises, instructional videos, and educational texts, catering to learners and teachers from basic education through to tertiary institutions. This platform is set to complement ongoing professional development for educators and deliver learning-based content that fosters digital inclusion and accessibility.

During the unveiling, a two-day stakeholder workshop was held in Abuja to introduce eLearn. Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, represented by Gbenga Odewale, highlighted the government's commitment to integrating technology into education. The ministry's recent collaboration with PLANE also includes the creation of a reference repository to consolidate all available e-learning resources within the country.

Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the platform is accessible to all, particularly for rural communities and individuals with disabilities, to prevent the creation of a digital divide. He noted that women and girls often have less digital access compared to men and stressed the need for inclusion and accessibility for people with various learning disabilities and sensory impairments.

The introduction of eLearn is expected to have a profound impact on the national education system, offering equal access to quality educational resources and advancing the educational experience for all stakeholders in Nigeria.
