Federal Government Unveils Three Strategic National Policies to Transform Nigeria's Education Sector
The Federal Government has unveiled three landmark national policy documents aimed at revitalising the education system, improving learning outcomes, and addressing key challenges across all levels of schooling. The event, held at the TETFund Auditorium, Abuja, marks a major step in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda’s education reforms.
Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the unveiling as a pivotal step toward a unified national vision for delivering high-quality education to every Nigerian child. The three policy documents are: the National Teachers Policy and its Implementation Guidelines; the National Implementation Guidelines Against Drug and Substance Use in Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions; and the National Policy on Almajiri Education with its Implementation Guidelines.
Dr Alausa stressed that policies must translate into measurable impact in classrooms and communities and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding access, improving quality, and promoting innovation through initiatives such as the National Education Loan Fund, the Tertiary Scholarship Scheme Fund, and the Students’ Innovation Venture Capital Grant.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’ad Ahmad, highlighted the urgent national issues addressed by the policies, including teacher development, drug abuse, and the integration of out-of-school children. She emphasised the critical role of State Governments in implementation.
State Commissioners for Education expressed full commitment to adopting the policies, while UNESCO confirmed ongoing technical support. Stakeholders praised the reforms and pledged collaboration.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring, transparency, and evidence-based implementation to build a more inclusive and high-performing education system.
