The Chairman of the Governing Council of British Transatlantic Polytechnic, Akure, Dr. Joe Obe, has called on the Federal Government to end the perceived discrimination against polytechnic education in Nigeria. He made this call during the matriculation ceremony of 120 new students.

Obe attributed the discrimination to the wrong perception that polytechnic education is inferior to university education. He emphasized the need for fairness and granting polytechnics degree-awarding powers to boost their reputation and produce more skilled graduates.

According to him, university graduates often lack functional skills, while polytechnic graduates are better equipped to drive the economy through entrepreneurship and innovation. He also highlighted the brain drain and loss of skilled labor in critical sectors like engineering, technology, and IT.
