FULafia VC Highlights Importance of Research and Publication

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has enumerated to the staff of the University the importance of research to improve quality of education .

Abdul Rahman spoke during a one-day workshop organised by the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, College of Medicine, Federal University of Lafia. 

The workshop with the topic: "Mastering research and publication,” took place at the Muhammadu Buhari TETFund Centre of Excellence, Permanent Site Campus, Lafia.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, and Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Ali Ishaq Shugaba, the vice-chancellor congratulated the faculty for organising the workshop, saying that the workshop was in line with his wish to promote academic research in the University. 

He commended the choice of the resource persons whom, he said, were drawn from different faculties and disciplines, emphasising that such a practice demonstrates the beauty of inter-faculty collaboration.

He encouraged other faculties and departments to imbibe the practice of organising regular workshops, seminars and conferences. 

In his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Surajudeen Junaid, thanked the vice-chancellor for finding time to attend the workshop 

He expressed his gratitude to him for promoting and supporting academic seminars, conferences and workshops in the University.

He said that the purpose of the workshop was to help participants develop their academic writing skills to write quality research proposals, conduct groundbreaking research and publication in quality journals. 

The resource persons at the workshop included Prof. Adams Adebayo Sirajudeen, Dr Hamza Muhammad, Dr Ibrahim Aishatu Ogiri, Prof. Surajudeen Junaid, Dr Godwin Obande, Gloria Musa Lalai, Dr Mary Matthew Rene and Dr Monday Nwankwo

The topics discussed were: Academic Writing and Publication, Enhancing Research and Academic Visibility,  Avoiding Plagiarism and Predatory Journals, Application of Right Statistical Tools, Artificial Intelligence in Research and Academic Writing, and Referencing Tools in Research (Mendeley,  Quilbot and End note), Research Design and Use of Statistics Package for the Social Science in Research (SPSS).
