FUNAAB VC Emphasizes Importance of Drivers and Mechanics in University Operations
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has highlighted the critical role drivers and mechanics play in the university's day-to-day operations.
He described them as "critical stakeholders" in the institution, emphasizing their responsibilities directly impact the university's image, operations, and overall productivity.
Prof. Kehinde made this remark while declaring open a 4-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Safety, Maintenance, and Ethics for government motor drivers and mechanics. The workshop, themed "Defensive and Safety Driving Techniques and Maintenance with Good Work Ethics/Attitudes," aimed to equip participants with modern safety and maintenance skills, as well as instill professional ethics required for effective service delivery.
The workshop featured keynote addresses from Venerable Olurotimi Akinyele, JP, who delivered a lecture on "Basic Elements of Vehicle Maintenance," and Mr. Gbolahan Opaleye, who spoke on "Good Work Ethics, Effective Communication, and Human Relations for Productivity Improvement."
The Vice-Chancellor's emphasis on the importance of drivers and mechanics reflects the university's commitment to staff development and capacity building. By investing in the training and development of all categories of staff, FUNAAB is ensuring that its employees are equipped to deliver high-quality services and support the university's mission and goals.
The workshop aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). By promoting capacity building and professional development, FUNAAB is contributing to the achievement of these global goals.
