FUOTUOKE VC Promises Enhanced Collaboration With Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Otuoke (FUO), Professor Teddy Charles Adias, has pledged a robust working relationship with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to help the regulatory body meet its primary goal of registering qualified and dynamic teaching staff, particularly graduates from FUO’s Faculty of Education.

During a courtesy visit on Friday, July 2, 2024, by a delegation from the TRCN Bayelsa State chapter, led by Chairperson Dr. Ezeigbe Wealth, Professor Adias emphasized the importance of elevating the standards of teacher training. He encouraged the TRCN to streamline its efforts to produce highly competent teachers and advised that any requests for reviewing registration, exam, and induction fees for final-year Education students should be directed to his office for Senate consideration, rather than to the Faculty Dean.

Professor Adias stated, “We’re willing to support you, but we also want you to encourage our students to support our system. Above all, we want you to celebrate teachers for their contributions to societal growth.” He added, “We will have a professional induction day during the 2024 convocation, scheduled for an appropriate time.”

In her address, Dr. Wealth expressed confidence in Professor Adias’ continued support for the TRCN. She highlighted the necessity for final-year students to register with the Council and participate in its professional exams to be inducted and licensed after their Teaching Practice, as required by all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Dr. Wealth also brought to the Vice Chancellor’s attention a previously sent letter regarding increased registration and exam fees, which have risen due to the TRCN’s current self-funding status. She made a heartfelt appeal for the Vice Chancellor to expedite the review of these fees to facilitate a smoother process for the students.

She emphasized the necessity for all teachers in Nigeria to obtain registration, certification, and a license from the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), as it is mandatory for practice. She also noted that this license is recognized internationally.
