The Registrar of Godfrey Okoye University, Dr. Mrs. Peace Ike, has urged newly admitted students to rely strictly on the institution’s official communication platforms for accurate information and guidance throughout their academic stay.

She gave the advice during her address on the second day of the 2025/2026 orientation programme for fresh students, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner Campus, Enugu.

Dr. Ike described the Registry as the administrative hub of the university, responsible for coordinating academic and administrative processes across departments and units. She outlined the functions of various sections within the Registry, emphasizing its role in information management, staff coordination, and institutional administration through the Human Resources Unit. She encouraged students to approach their academic journey with clear goals and purpose, noting that focus and direction are essential for academic success.

Also addressing the students, the Bursar, Prof. Mrs. Modesta Egiyi, explained that the Bursary Unit oversees revenue generation, financial management, budgeting, payroll administration, and student financial clearance in accordance with established financial regulations. She noted that the unit ensures transparency and accountability in the university’s financial operations.

The Director of Student Mentorship and Parent Relations, Lady Jane Ndukwe, highlighted the importance of the university’s mentorship framework, explaining that the programme assigns staff mentors to students to support their academic, social, and personal development. She added that participation in the mentorship programme is compulsory and forms part of students’ character assessment, while also encouraging parents to remain engaged through the Parents’ Forum.

In his presentation, the Director of Entrepreneurship, Mr. Christopher Uwakwe, stated that the university’s entrepreneurship initiative is designed to reposition students from job seekers to job creators by equipping them with practical skills and business-oriented mindsets necessary for post-graduation competitiveness.

Speaking on health matters, the Head of the University Medical Clinic, Dr. Uche Eze, cautioned students against self-medication and advised them to seek professional medical care when ill. She stressed the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles through proper nutrition, regular exercise, hygiene, effective time management, stress control, and vaccination.

On mental health and wellbeing, the Head of the Counselling Unit, Rev. Sis. Dr. Veronica Irrigwe, represented by Mrs. Linda Ejiofor, emphasized the need for students to prioritise psychological wellbeing. She noted that the Counselling Unit provides professional support to help students manage stress, emotional challenges, and academic pressures.

The orientation programme continues as the university prepares for the matriculation ceremony of newly admitted students later in the month.
