KASU to integrate skills into the university curriculum, bolsters partnership with NBTE

Kaduna State University is taking steps to enhance its partnership with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and prioritize talent development by considering the integration of skills into its university curriculum. 

Discussions between KASU and NBTE were held on Monday, 21st August 2023 to discuss the potential implementation of this initiative. The Vice-Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa stated this while on a courtesy call with members of the University Management to the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris Bugaje, to further explore and strengthen this collaboration. 

He said the world has advanced, and the need to train and make students self-sufficient and independent is very important to the development of society.

Prof. Musa intimated the host of the mandate given to the current administration by the State Government, to transform the university into a world-class standard. 

''In our aspiration to achieve this mandate, a strategic plan has been developed with 75 key indicators identified, with teaching excellence, research and community service as the major points," said the VC. 

In his response, the Executive Secretary congratulated the Management of KASU on the progress witnessed in the university and stated that the need to partner is incredible which will offer so many opportunities. 

He commended Management's vision and urged them to expedite the integration of skills like welding, coding, POP making and hotel management and tourism into the university's curriculum so that students will acquire hands-on experience that meets national operational standards in addition to the theory taught in classrooms.

Prof. Bugaje explained that the partnership will help in the dual certification of students. He also mentioned the need to engage the informal sector to train staff as quality assurance assessors to drive the innovation agenda of the university. 

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Yushau Ango, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Muhammad Bashir, the Registrar, Samira Balarabe Esq, the Bursar, Hajiya Hauwau Dalhat, Treasurer,  Hajiya Khadijat Muhammad, the University Public Relations Officer, Adamu Nuhu Bargo, the Special Assistant to the VC, Mallam Abdulazeez Aliyu Idris and the Protocol Officer of the University, Mallam Hadi Tanko.
