Lawmaker Presents Petition Over LAUTECH Shooting, Calls for Justice

Hon. Ayodeji Akala, a member of the House of Representatives, has submitted a petition seeking justice for the alleged police killing of Iyanda Damilola, a serving Corps member, during a convocation ceremony at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The petition, presented on behalf of the petitioner, Iyanda Femi Israel, brother of the deceased, highlights the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. According to the petitioner and his representative, they were not involved in any cult activities, contrary to police allegations.
On April 22, 2024, during Israel's convocation ceremony at LAUTECH, a fight ensued, attracting police attention. In an attempt to restore order, the police fired shots, resulting in Damilola's death.

The petitioner recounted the events, stating, "In a reckless display of gunfire, members of the Nigeria Police Force began shooting into the air. Tragically, my brother fell victim to a stray bullet, fatally striking him in the head. I, too, was injured by a stray bullet, sustaining an injury to my left arm."
The loss of Damilola has deeply affected the family, who seek justice and accountability for his death. They refute claims of involvement in any wrongdoing and urge the Honorable House to ensure that the officers responsible are held accountable under the law.
Furthermore, they demand an investigation into the Ogbomoso Monitoring Force for alleged bullying and harassment of students. The petitioner emphasizes the importance of seeking justice to prevent such incidents from recurring and to safeguard the lives of all Nigerians.
