Modibbo Adama University Students Acquire Hands-On Skills in Interlocks Installation
Students from the Faculties of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Agriculture of Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola have embarked on a practical entrepreneurial project, marking a significant step in their academic journey.
As part of their Entrepreneurial Skills course, a compulsory requirement for all 300-level students, the Department of General Studies (GST), in collaboration with the Building Department, organized a practical exercise involving the moulding and installation of interlocking tiles at the premises of the University’s Microfinance Bank.
The project was carried out in two phases; moulding and installation, aimed at sparking students’ interest in entrepreneurship and preparing them to be self-reliant after graduation.
The Head of the Building Department, Dr. Umar Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, for providing the necessary materials and support. He stressed that the initiative is designed to equip students with practical knowledge that can translate into sustainable businesses.
Also speaking, the Head of the General Studies Department, Dr. Mohammad Bello, noted that the GST Department domiciles the Entrepreneurial Skills course but collaborates with other departments, such as Building, Home Economics, and Tailoring, to give students a diverse skill set beyond the classroom.
During the practical phase, students demonstrated enthusiasm and creativity. Speaking on behalf of their colleagues, Victor Venson and Aminat Ahmad Hassan, expressed gratitude to the University and pledged to venture into moulding, construction, and installation of interlocks after graduation.
Technical staff of the Building Department, including Mr. Mustapha Yerima Saleh, emphasized that the exercise was deliberately structured to encourage self-reliance and reduce dependence on white-collar jobs.
This innovative approach, reflects MAU Yola’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates who are not only academically sound but also equipped with practical entrepreneurial skills to contribute to national economic growth.
