The Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Anambra State branch, has expressed readiness to collaborate with Federal Polytechnic, Oko, under the leadership of Rector Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, to enhance the institution’s technological and engineering practical initiatives.

Led by State Chairman Okoloedo Ejike, the delegation made their intentions known during a courtesy visit to the Rector. The association proposed initiatives such as exhibitions and excursions aimed at improving engineering students’ practical knowledge and exposure to modern technology.
Speaking during the visit, NATE Vice Chairman and South East Zonal Secretary, Engr. Patrick Ugochukwu, described NATE as a professional body of practical engineers regulated by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Established in 1976 and incorporated in 1988, the body promotes excellence among technologists, engineers, technicians, and craftsmen, with a mission to foster self-reliance in Nigeria’s technological development.
Ugochukwu appealed for the institution’s support for NATE members working in various capacities within the polytechnic, noting the importance of enabling their professional growth. He also announced that the National body had approved the Rector’s nomination for an honorary fellowship award in recognition of her contributions to the engineering profession in Nigeria.

The delegation further proposed collaboration during admissions and ceremonies, aligning with COREN’s “catch them young” roadmap. This includes administering oaths to HND 1 engineering students during matriculation and HND 2 students during graduation, followed by a one-year industry internship. NATE also sought the Rector’s support in the chartering of its Aguata branch, both financially and logistically.

In her response, Dr. Awuzie commended NATE for its interest in partnering with the polytechnic and encouraged members who are academic staff to apply early for TETFund conference sponsorship to increase their chances of approval. She assured the association of the institution’s readiness to provide support where necessary.
