Nigerian Communications Commission and Digital Bridge Institute Train 100 Federal Polytechnic Oko Staff on Data Analysis, Cyber Security and Emerging Technologies

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), through its training arm the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) Abuja, conducted a five‑day intensive capacity‑building programme for 100 selected staff of the Federal Polytechnic Oko.

Held at the institution’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Academy, the training was part of the Advanced Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI) — fully funded by the NCC.

The programme — opened by Rector Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie (represented by Deputy Rector Administration Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe) — covered digital skills and cyber‑security, ICT office‑productivity tools, e‑teaching and e‑library tools, data analysis and visualisation using SPSS and Microsoft Power BI, as well as collaboration and emerging‑technology skills.

Dr. Awuzie expressed delight that Federal Polytechnic Oko was selected as an ADEPTI beneficiary and said the training aligns with the institution’s vision to enhance staff capacity for optimum performance in a technology‑driven labour market. She thanked DBI and the NCC for their support and pledged continued investment in digital up‑skilling for staff.

David Daser, President/CEO of DBI — speaking through programme coordinator Mr. Calistus Oko — commended the polytechnic’s management for championing the ADEPTI initiative. He outlined the programme’s objectives: mastering internet‑governance concepts, performing data analysis and visualisation of educational/research data with SPSS and Power BI, maximising Microsoft Office applications, applying cyber‑security measures, facilitating online collaboration, and transitioning from manual to ICT‑enabled academic and administrative processes.

Participants — including Deputy Rector Academic Dr. Nkiru Akabuike, Dr. Ijeoma Okechukwu, Mr. Love Iruoma and Mrs. Dike Jennifer Nkiru — praised the Rector and instructors for their dedication and called for further continuous‑capacity‑building programmes. ICT Director Dr. Amobi Chiamogu assured trainees that training manuals and certificates would be provided upon completion.

DBI indicated openness to future partnerships with tertiary institutions for training in ICT, telecommunications, e‑learning, system design, project management, networking and cyber‑security.

The training underscores the NCC’s commitment to digitally empowering Nigeria’s tertiary‑education workforce under the ADEPTI scheme.
