NOUN Students Urged to Take Charge of Their Studies

The Director of the Port Harcourt Study Centre at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, has emphasized the importance of students taking charge of their academic activities.

Describing NOUN as a "do-it-yourself" university, Dr. Ettu urged students to be proactive in managing their studies.

Dr. Ettu highlighted areas where students need to take ownership, including semester registration, course and exam registration, and completing Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) on their own. She warned against outsourcing academic activities, noting that it can lead to poor academic outcomes.

The centre director also stressed the importance of adhering to the final exam timetable and avoiding provisional schedules to prevent missing exams. She emphasized that the Port Harcourt Study Centre has a zero-tolerance policy for exam misconduct, with penalties including summary expulsion for offenders.

Other officials at the centre, including the Principal Students' Counselor and ICT Officer, also addressed students on available support services and the importance of self-discipline and time management in achieving academic success.
