OGITECH Hosts COREN President and TETFund Committee; Formalises Certifications for Artisans
The Management of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has lauded the Federal Government’s commitment to skill acquisition, describing it as a vital move to bolster "Made in Nigeria" innovation and address the nation's immediate economic needs.
The commendation came on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026, as the institution hosted the TETFund Ministerial Committee on Skills Development and Engineering Workshop Intervention.
In his welcome address, the Rector of OGITECH, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, highlighted the transformative impact of TETFund interventions on the campus. He noted that these resources have been pivotal in realizing the management’s vision: a seamless integration of academic learning and industrial application.
"Our goal is to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world industrial experience," Dr. Oluseye stated. "With TETFund's support, we are providing skill acquisition certifications that range across various categories, reaching up to PhD equivalents."
In a significant shift toward inclusive education, OGITECH has been approved to offer certifications for various skill acquisition programmes that do not require WAEC or traditional entrance examinations.
The curriculum, which is strictly practical, aims to formalise the expertise of local artisans. Under the supervision of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), these artisans will now be able to earn government recognized certifications, empowering a workforce that has previously operated outside the formal academic framework.
The visiting delegation was led by Professor Sodiq Z. Abubakar, President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Professor Abubakar emphasised that the visit was aligned with the national theme: "Engineering Workshop for One Product, One Polytechnic."

The primary objectives of the committee’s visit include: monitoring the progress of the 2025 skills development interventions, evaluating the institution’s capacity for specialised engineering production and reviewing the questionnaires submitted by the polytechnic to ensure project efficacy.
The inspection team featured prominent figures in Nigeria’s technical sector, including Engr. Olawumi Gasper, President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), and Mrs. Sa’adatu Jimoh, Deputy Director at TETFund and Secretary to the Committee.
Closing the session, the Deputy Rector, Dr. Oluyemi Odutola, expressed profound gratitude to the delegation and TETFund. He remarked that being selected as a beneficiary of this special intervention is a testament to OGITECH’s growing reputation as a hub of vocational and technical excellence.
