Themed “Education for Peace: Youth Action in a Changing World, Building a Just and Inclusive Society,” the event featured engaging discussions, peace awards, and scholarship announcements, drawing attention to the university's role in fostering a harmonious society.
In recognition of Vice-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke’s tireless efforts in advancing education and peace, the West African Broadcast Academy (WABMA) unveiled 23 scholarships for indigent secondary school students in Enugu State. Named the “Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke Scholarship,” this initiative will support WAEC exam participation over the next five years, aligning with the conference’s focus on early intervention. Anieke urged young attendees to become peace advocates amid societal challenges.

Two university members were honored with Peace Ambassador Awards: Dr. Mrs. Peace Ike, the Registrar, and Mrs. Purity Okoh, a Student Affairs Officer, for their contributions to staff and student harmony. Chief Vin-Martins Ilo, CEO of Signature TV, delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the late Sister Professor Gloria Njoku’s legacy and cautioning against the negative digital influence on youth, encouraging stronger community ties.
Barr. Nnenna Anozie highlighted gender inclusivity as a cornerstone of sustainable peace, advocating for equal male and female participation in decision-making. Barr. Amaobi Amaku explored “The Power of Sports Diplomacy: How Youth and Football Unite Communities,” showcasing football’s potential to bridge ethnic and religious divides. Sidik Pramono, joining virtually from Indonesia, shared insights on interfaith peacebuilding, offering lessons adaptable to Africa.
Additional goodwill messages from Dr. Ike Okere (WABMA Executive Director), Mrs. Meggy Kantert (University Liaison Officer), and representatives of partner institutions praised the conference’s impact, calling for ongoing collaborations. The event also launched new Peace Clubs, bringing the total to 20 across schools, reinforcing youth-led peace efforts.
The day included vibrant spoken word performances, a peace-themed quiz, and a spelling bee, showcasing students’ creativity and intellect. #GodfreyOkoyeUniversity trended as the university solidified its leadership in peace education and youth development.
