Students’ Union Meets UDUS Bursary to Resolve NELFUND and Scholarship Refund Delays

The Students’ Union has met with the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Bursary Division to extensively discuss the state of students’ refunds under the NELFUND Scheme and State Scholarship Programmes.

The Students’ Union wishes to inform the general student body that the meeting was held on Wednesday, 21st January, 2026, at the Bursary Division Boardroom, following concerns raised by students regarding delays and inconsistencies in refund disbursement.

During the meeting, the Chairman, Comrade Tasiu Aminu, formally briefed the Bursary Division on complaints received from students concerning the refund process. He disassociated the Students’ Union from a flyer currently in circulation and clarified that the Union operates an official Students’ Union Complaint Desk, through which students are encouraged to submit complaints for prompt attention and response.

In response, the NELFUND Officer, Mallam Sifiyanu Koko, assured the Students’ Union that substantial progress has been made in the refund process. According to him, 90 percent of approved refunds have already been successfully disbursed, while the remaining percentage has been uploaded and is currently awaiting final processing. He further reaffirmed the Bursary Division’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible students receive their refunds in due course.

Further clarifications were provided by Malam Hassan, who explained that not all students are eligible for refunds. He noted that some students are not beneficiaries of State Scholarships, while others did not apply for the NELFUND Scheme, which automatically disqualifies them from the refund process. He also emphasized that NELFUND funds are strictly meant for registration purposes.

Consequently, only students who personally paid their school fees or benefited from approved scholarship schemes are entitled to refunds. Students who neither paid their school fees themselves nor received scholarships are therefore not eligible for any refund.

At the end of the meeting, it was resolved that any student under the NELFUND Scheme or Scholarship Programme who has not received a refund for the 2024/2025 academic session should write a formal letter to the Bursary Division through the Students’ Union.

The letter should contain the following details:

For submission, students are advised to contact the Head of the Students’ Union Complaint Desk via 0706 083 3853.

Students who have complaints of under-refund are also advised to write through the Students’ Union, clearly stating the expected refund amount and the amount already received.

While the Students’ Union understands the inconvenience experienced by students regarding the refund process, the Union strongly emphasizes the need for students to use appropriate and official channels when lodging complaints.

The Students’ Union remains steadfast in its commitment to continuous engagement with University Management on issues affecting the welfare and interests of students.
