The University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, has become the first tertiary institution in the state to implement the Delta State initiative on entrepreneurship education, according to Dr. Jude Igborghor, Acting Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development (CED).

Dr. Igborghor made the announcement during the 2025/2026 Orientation Exercise for students of the centre, held across all three UNIDEL campuses. He praised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, for her visionary leadership and for consistently championing the integration of entrepreneurship education into the curriculum, aiming to empower students with skills and knowledge for self-relevance and lifelong success.
Highlighting the importance of the orientation, Dr. Igborghor explained that students needed clear guidance on how entrepreneurship operates globally to avoid common pitfalls. He emphasized that entrepreneurship is crucial for self-sustenance and economic contribution, noting that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has made it a mandatory component of university curricula.

“Entrepreneurship education equips students with the skills and mindset to create jobs rather than just seek employment,” he said. “In doing so, graduates can drive economic growth and positively impact society.”
Dr. Igborghor also revealed that the Delta State government has taken a further step to enhance entrepreneurship education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Global Weisen Consult, affiliated with the Swedish Embassy, to strengthen digital entrepreneurship.
At the orientation, Oscar Nwokenji, Program Director of Global Weisen Consult, lectured students on the approaches and benefits of digital entrepreneurship, while Osim Faith, Program Coordinator, and other instructors were also in attendance.

The initiative marks a significant milestone for UNIDEL, reinforcing the University’s commitment to equipping students with practical, market-relevant skills that foster innovation, self-reliance, and economic impact.
