In an effort to equip newly enrolled students at the University of Lagos' School of Foundation Studies (SFS) for their upcoming academic pursuits, the university organized an orientation program on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Jelili Adebisi-Omotola Auditorium, UNILAG, Akoka.

Various university officials, including Dr. Temitope Onuminya, the Deputy Director of the School, Dr. Adewale Ibukun, Deputy Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS), and Mrs. Janet Aregbesola, Principal Assistant Registrar of the Students Affairs Division, came together to address the 2023/2024 intake of the School. They provided essential insights into academic expectations, course registration procedures, library resources, and extracurricular activities available on campus.

During the orientation, students were urged to manage their time effectively, communicate with faculty members, and actively participate in both academic and non-academic activities.

Professor Solomon Akinboye, the Director of the School of Foundation Studies, commended the students for their successful admission, revealing that a total of 2,208 students had been admitted for the academic session. He emphasized that the Foundation Programme serves as a crucial stepping stone to higher education, offering a solid foundation in various disciplines and preparing students for the challenges ahead.

Professor Akinboye also explained that the SFS Orientation Program aimed to familiarize students with university policies, facilities, resources, and academic expectations. He emphasized the transformative journey that these students had embarked upon.

One of the highlights of the orientation program was a discussion of the international exchange opportunities available through the International Relations Partnership and Prospects (IRPP) Office of the University. The students were informed about a wide range of exchange programs and the chance to study abroad, gaining international exposure and cultural immersion.

Miss Toyin Ganiyu, a representative from the IRPP office, elaborated on the benefits of these programs, which included academic enrichment, personal growth, and cultural experiences.

Mr. Esan from the university's Security Unit provided details about safety measures in place to ensure a secure environment for all students. He discussed emergency protocols and encouraged students to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.

Additionally, Mrs. Olufunlola Olaleye from United Health Care International covered the importance of comprehensive health coverage during their academic journey, emphasizing the significance of maintaining good health and encouraging students to prioritize their well-being while studying at the university.
