The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has issued a strong warning to staff members over the rising cases of illegal collection and extortion of money from students within the institution.
In an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chineye Gloria Okeke, and dated 6th October 2025, the university expressed dismay at reports indicating that some staff members—both teaching and non-teaching—have been demanding money from students, often under compulsory conditions.

The management, during its 361st meeting held on Thursday, 2nd October 2025, directed that no staff member should extort or illegally collect money from students under any guise, warning that severe disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone found guilty of such misconduct.
Students were also cautioned to desist from offering money to staff for any reason, whether under duress or voluntarily, and were urged to report such incidents to the university authorities immediately.
The memo further emphasized that all payments must be made only into approved university, faculty, or departmental accounts — not personal accounts of any staff member.
According to the Registrar, the directive serves as a warning to both staff and students to uphold integrity and ensure transparency in all financial dealings within the university.
