WAEC Declares Schools Involved in Malpractice Ineligible for $5,000 Book Prize
Uzoigwe clarified that the $5,000 book prize, established to reward excellence and encourage healthy competition among schools, will only be awarded to the top three schools with the best aggregate results in the WASSCE in each state. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that any secondary school implicated in malpractice during the school-based May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be disqualified from receiving its annual $5,000 book prize. Mr. Godwin Uzoigwe, a member of the Board of Trustees for the WAEC Endowment Fund Book Prize, made this declaration at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Nigeria National Committee (NNC) of WAEC in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

This year, three Nasarawa schools—Gradams Faith Academy, Masaka (first position), God’s Grace International Academy, Ado-Karo (second position), and Government Secondary School, Awogenshen (third position)—were awarded the book prize. Uzoigwe expressed confidence that these schools would make good use of the books presented to them at the event.
The federal and Nasarawa State governments commended WAEC at the meeting for its contributions to credible examinations and overall development in the education sector. Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, acknowledged WAEC's impact on students' performance assessment and its efforts to combat examination malpractice.

Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of National Office of WAEC Nigeria, emphasized WAEC's commitment to eradicating examination malpractice. He thanked the government and people of Nasarawa State for hosting the NNC meeting and urged continuous efforts in providing quality education for meaningful societal growth and development.
