Women in Science Forum Honours Northwest University Kano Vice Chancellor for Advancing Women and Girl-Child Education in Science
The Women in Science Forum of Northwest University, Kano has presented an Award of Recognition to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, in appreciation of his outstanding intellectual qualities and immense contributions toward the advancement of women and girl-child education in science across the University and Kano State.
The award was formally presented during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor’s Office at the Main Campus by members of the forum, led by Dr. Zainab Rabiu, Chairperson of the Women in Science Forum and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.
In her remarks, Dr. Zainab praised Professor Kurawa for his leadership and firm support for women in academia, particularly in science-based disciplines. She noted that the Vice Chancellor has played a significant role in encouraging gender inclusion, supporting female academic growth, and promoting girl-child participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The delegation included members from the College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Computing, among them Dr. Sadiya Warshu, Dr. Afiya Hamisu, and other committed members of the forum who expressed their appreciation for the Vice Chancellor’s inclusive policies and programs.
In response, Professor Kurawa expressed deep gratitude to the forum for the honour, describing it as a strong motivation to continue championing inclusive education and excellence. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all and pledged continued support for the development of women in science and education.
The Women in Science Forum remains a vibrant platform for promoting female participation in STEM fields within Northwest University Kano. Through mentorship, advocacy, and research initiatives, the forum continues to empower women and inspire the younger generation to embrace careers in science and innovation.
