The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) recently hosted a documentary team from the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to mark the 10th anniversary of the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) project in Nigeria. The two-day documentary shoot, which took place from August 26 to 27, 2024, at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters in Abuja, aimed to showcase ACETEL’s significant contributions under the ACE IMPACT Project.
Preparatory meetings for the shoot were held on August 25, 2024, at ACETEL’s office. The documentary team included Ms. Lydia Nyame, Team Lead for the AAU ACE Impact Documentary Series; Mr. Edem Hottor, AAU TV Manager; and Mr. Tsutsu Lawrence, a Ghanaian Cinematographer. They were joined by NUC-PIU team members Ms. Yvonne Orekyeh, Communications Lead, and Mr. Nathanael Odaudu, Communications Specialist.
Under the direction of ACETEL’s Director, Prof. Grace Jokthan, and with support from other ACETEL staff, the team conducted extensive filming. Key segments of the documentary featured interviews with NOUN’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, who highlighted ACETEL’s impact on the university community and the crucial role of institutional support. Additional interviews included ACETEL officials such as Professor Grace Jokthan, Professor Christine Ofulue, and Dr. Abiodun Adeyinka, as well as ICT Officer Mr. Abu Kadafa.
The documentary also spotlighted sectorial and industry partners, ACETEL students, and beneficiaries of community outreach programs, including refugees who attended an IT essentials training workshop at the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) in Benue State. An alumnus shared personal insights into the transformative effect of ACETEL’s initiatives.
Footage captured during the shoot included drone shots of ongoing construction at ACETEL and images of its seven laboratories in operation, providing a vivid portrayal of the Centre’s dynamic academic environment and ongoing projects.
Ms. Yvonne Orekyeh noted that the documentary would be broadcast on local, regional, and international TV stations, as well as various social media platforms, to enhance the visibility of Nigerian ACEs and encourage regional student enrollment.
