The Admiralty University of Nigeria held its 11th regular governing council meeting on August 28–29, 2025, a milestone event that set the tone for the institution’s strategic direction.

According to Makut Alfred Mashat, Public Relations Officer of the university, the meeting was the first for the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor, Vice Admiral V.K. Ombu (Rtd), and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher B.N. Ogbogbo, whose leadership immediately focused on environmental sustainability and academic excellence.

The meeting began with a tree-planting exercise, led by the Pro-Chancellor and joined by the Vice-Chancellor and council members. Mashat noted that this initiative symbolized the university’s commitment to a greener campus and demonstrated a proactive approach to mitigating climate change.

Over the two-day meeting, the council’s Finance and General Purposes, Appointment, and Promotions Committees deliberated on strategies to enhance environmental sustainability, elevate academic standards, and improve campus life. Mashat emphasized that the full attendance of all council members reflected a shared commitment to making impactful decisions for the university’s academic and administrative advancement.

The meeting also included a birthday celebration for Vice Admiral Ombu, during which council members honored his distinguished career as a former Chief of the Naval Staff and celebrated his leadership and accomplishments.
According to Makut Alfred Mashat, the gathering underscored the university’s dual focus on sustainability and academic excellence under its new leadership, signaling a forward-looking approach to higher education governance.
