This is coming as the institution prepares to launch blended learning in the discharge of its academic actives, leasing to some of its academic staff being trained in the new system of teaching and learning ..
The capacity building programme was organized under the auspices of the Partnership Program for Enhanced and Blended learning (PEBL), West Africa, which started in 2021, geared towards supporting partner-universities to build capacity through training and development of quality assured, credit-bearing blended courses.
Myschoolnews reports the selected members of staff were presented with their certificates at the end of the training.
In his opening remarks during the ceremony, the Project Coordinator, Partnership for Enhanced and Blended Learning in –West Africa, Prof. Dr. Johnny Ogunji thanked the University Management for its support throughout the training process, adding that the level of interest shown by the university was encouraging and elicited a degree of integration in the programme.
He further stated that the university was selected as one of the 12th Universities in Nigeria and Ghana for the 2-year project, noting that over 1,200 academics and over 5,000 students would benefit from the project through training, tools and framework.
He further noted that the university has benefitted from the project so far, while it is also expected that the chain programme will be formidable in the institution using the acquired knowledge of the participants on how to deal with contextually relevant and cost-effective quality assurance approaches implementable in developing country. He further encouraged everyone to embrace blended learning training to be well equipped with the capacity and skills.
Reiterating the importance of adopting blended learning in the university, the Vice- Chancellor. Prof. Sunday Elom commended the Coordinator of the project who also doubles as Director of Academic planning, Prof. Ogunji and his team for the energy, time and resources they have put in for the success of the training pogramme, adding that those awarded with certificates in blended learning were expected to train others to ensure that the entire university ecosystem becomes acquainted with the new technique..
The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Romanus Ejiaga urged the next set of trainees to take it seriously as Education methodology continues to evolve, noting that in this digital age, blended learning will play a significant role in higher education.
He explained that generally, university strives to provide effective learning to address the needs of the digitally-oriented generation of learners, and AE-FUNAI happens to be part of it, stressing that blended learning has emerged as a solution to addressing the needs of the new generation of students and teachers.
