ASUU Orders Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members nationwide to embark on an indefinite strike due to the federal government's failure to pay salaries for June 2025.

The union's "No Pay, No Work" policy has been triggered, and branches at the University of Jos and the University of Abuja have already begun the strike.

ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, expressed the union's frustration with the government's lack of concern for the welfare of lecturers. He attributed the recurring salary delays to the transition from the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).

The National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU had previously agreed that members would withdraw their services if salaries were delayed by more than three days. With no meaningful response from the authorities, the NEC's resolution is now in full effect.

Any university where June salaries remain unpaid is expected to join the strike. The union's action is likely to disrupt academic activities across the country, affecting students and the overall educational system .
