The Deanery of Student Affairs at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has issued a firm warning against any form of external interference in the forthcoming Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections, reaffirming the university’s resolve to conduct a credible and student-driven electoral process.
In a circular dated December 27, 2025, and signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Mukhtar Ridwanu Bunza, the university administration declared its “uncompromising” commitment to supervising free, fair, and transparent elections strictly reserved for bona fide students of Bayero University, Kano.
The circular categorically stated that the Deanery “will not condone any external influence from former SUG executives, former students (popularly referred to as comrades), or any individual who is not a current student of Bayero University, Kano.” According to the directive, aspiring candidates are expected to canvass support solely within the existing student population.

The university warned that any candidate found to be associating with or benefitting from external influence risks immediate disqualification from the electoral process. Candidates and their supporters were further cautioned to strictly comply with all constitutional provisions and guidelines governing the conduct of the elections.
“Candidates and their supporters are hereby warned to abide by this instruction and respect all the constitutional provisions of the electoral process,” the circular emphasized.
The development is widely viewed as a proactive move by the university management to safeguard the integrity of the SUG elections, prevent off-campus political manipulation, and ensure that the outcome genuinely reflects the collective will of BUK’s current students.
