BUK SERVICOM Launches Revised Service Charter to Strengthen Service Delivery
The Directorate of SERVICOM, Bayero University Kano (BUK), has unveiled its revised Service Charter, reaffirming the University's commitment to due process, accountability, and efficient service delivery across all administrative operations.
The launch ceremony, which was held on Monday, 4th August 2025, at the Centre for Economic, Social and Population Research (CESPOR), BUK New Campus, was attended by key stakeholders
address service failure and promote excellence across public institutions. She described excellence as delivering services that meet or exceed the needs and expectations of customers and related the role of SERVICOM to the University's mission and vision, as well as its impact on the quality of engagement between students and lecturers, non-teaching staff, and other critical service units such as the library and the health clinic. She also highlighted the Charter's role in ensuring the implementation of service standards, the sensitization and orientation of staff and students on service ethics, the monitoring and evaluation of service delivery, and the promotion of quality assurance throughout the University.
In another presentation titled "Effective Service Delivery in Nigerian Universities: The Need for Synergy between Management and SERVICOM," Barrister Nura Musa Abdullahi emphasized the importance of building strong collaboration between University Management and SERVICOM to achieve better service delivery. He called for deliberate steps to institutionalize this synergy for greater organizational performance.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, emphasized the University's unwavering dedication to staff welfare, motivation, and professional development. He noted that adherence to due process remains central to the University's policies and administrative practices. Prof. Abbas encouraged members of the University community to study the reviewed charter thoroughly and uphold its guiding principles, stressing that for the Charter to be sustainable and effective, it must be embraced and applied by every stakeholder within the University.
Representing the National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Presidency, Abuja, Mrs. Kikelomo Olaniyan delivered a paper titled "Role of SERVICOM in Enhancing Organizational Excellence in Bayero University Kano," where she explained that SERVICOM was established.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof. Sani Ibrahim, Director and Focal Officer of SERVICOM, described the revised Service Charter as a vital tool that outlines the University's pledge to deliver quality and timely services to students, staff, and the public. He explained that the Charter is subject to review every three years or earlier if necessary, to ensure that it remains responsive to emerging needs and developments within the University. Prof. Ibrahim lauded the University Management for its consistent support and described the event as a historic milestone in the University's drive to enhance service delivery and accountability. He also encouraged members of the University community to take advantage of the established complaint and feedback channels, including complaint boxes, dedicated phone numbers, email addresses, and the University Bulletin.
He expressed his appreciation to Mr. Iliyasu Musa, Chairman of NUC/PSC, and Mrs. Kikelomo Olajumoke Olaniyan for officially launching the Charter, as well as to the paper presenters for their insightful contributions.
