A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr. Rilwan Amos Yakubu, has equipped 60 students in Anambra State with digital skills in videography and photography as part of his community development project.
Yakubu, a graduate of English and Literature from the Federal University, Lokoja, spent three months conducting intensive training for students from various schools, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and several secondary and vocational schools in Okpuno. His initiative aimed at providing students with hands-on digital skills to help them thrive in Nigeria's evolving economy.
Out of the 60 participants, eight students were recognized for their exceptional performance and will undergo an additional month of training, with the top performer receiving a special opportunity for further development.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, praised Yakubu’s dedication, calling him an asset to the nation. She encouraged the students to leverage their new skills for self-reliance, especially amid Nigeria’s current economic challenges.
Rev. Fr. Robert Aniagboso, Director of Fides Media, where Yakubu serves, commended the Corps member’s commitment. Fr. Aniagboso further announced that Fides Media would offer employment to the best among the eight shortlisted students.
Yakubu’s project is part of the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which aims to empower Nigerian youth through practical skill training.
